Who: The programme is intended for those entrepreneurs with an awesome business idea but who aren’t sure about how to get it off the starting blocks.

 

What: The programme assesses the practical and financial viability of the business idea, and helps make any tweaks to ensure its successful launch. Your business must be a tech or tech-enabled operation.

 

Duration: Participants are required commit to 12 four-hour sessions held over the course of six months. Each session guides entrepreneurs through the key steps needed to create a solid and attractive business concept, a strong start-up organisation, lasting customer relations, and how to do so at a profit.

VeloCiTi starting blocks

 

OFF THE
STARTING BLOCKS?

 

 

VeloCiTi

 

Who: Aimed at businesses that are off the starting blocks but want to make sure a solid foundation for the business has been laid. Your business must be a tech or tech-enabled operation.

 

What: VeloCiTi will assist to implement the right systems and processes to ensure the business is run profitably and sustainably. The programme starts by analysing the business to identify its strengths and areas that need attention. The programme helps entrepreneurs to develop a specific action plan, tailored to the startup’s requirements. These could includ looking at finances, operations, marketing, sales and HR.

 

Duration: The programme requires a commit of up to 12 four-hour sessions over the year — participants only attend the sessions that apply to their business’s specific requirements that have been identified during the business analysis. Ongoing mentoring and regular business analysis helps to track progress, hold business owners accountable and keep the programme relevant.

VeloCiTi tech savvy teen

 

TECH SAVVY
TEEN?

 

 

TechTeens

 

Who: TechTeens aims to create an environment and learning space dedicated to empowering the youth and specifically young women based in Khayelitsha and the surrounding Mitchells Plain areas. As per the GirlHype programme, we will inspire girls in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

 

What: We have the vision of creating a technology conscious generation, apt at science and maths and engineering as mediums. We want to introduce the born free generations, the youths of South Africa to technology as means of creating sustainable developmental change. We encourage schooling as a method of knowledge transfer and thus encourage as many of our students to enter into universities and go to school. Our program works and our modules have been tested to encourage higher learning, peer study and interest in technology for development.

 

Duration: 6 months to 1 year, once a week for half a day

 

Location: The Barn Khayelitsha, Lookout Hill

IN
TOURISM?

 

 

Guest House Owners and
Tour Operators

 

Who: This programme will assist and incubate guest house and B&B owners and tour operators based in Khayelitsha and the surrounding Mitchells Plain areas in designing, setting up and/or structuring their businesses for success.

 

What: The key outcome of the programme is to have developed an action plan for launch, sustainability and growth. The programme structure is similar to that of the Micro Enterprise Development Programme’s Level 2 and 3 with a focus on tourism and guest house management.

 

Duration: 6 month, one morning a week

 

Location: The Barn Khayelitsha, Lookout Hill

e-Commerce for Arts & Crafts

 

Who: The purpose of the programme is to assist entrepreneurs based in Khayelitsha and the surrounding Mitchells Plain areas in the art and crafts sector through IT enablement and specifically to facilitate market access through the introduction of technology and e-commerce.

 

What: The programme is offered in partnership with MzansiStore, a graduate company of the Bandwidth Barn. MzansiStore operates as an online marketplace, showcasing local crafters and artists, and allowing for online shopping and delivery of these otherwise small-market-bound products. It was also recognised as the Top 40 Most Innovative Companies in South Africa in August 2014. The programme covers topics like getting ready to sell online, selling online, running a successful online business, Promoting your online business, Online consumer behavior and more.

 

Duration: Participants are required to commit to 12 four-hour sessions held over the course of six months. Each session guides entrepreneurs through the key steps needed to create a solid and attractive business concept, a strong start-up organisation, lasting customer relations, and how to do so at a profit.

APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

3. Potential candidates will be short listed and you will be contacted and informed of your application status

5. Final selection will be made by a panel.

 

ICT ENTREPRENEUR?

 

 

Innovator Trust Development Programme

 

Who: The entrepreneurs who attend this exciting programme must have their own small, micro or medium sized business within the tech and ICT space that has been in operation for more than two years.

 

Participants must be:
1. A Small, Medium or Micro Enterprise, Qualifying Small Enterprise or Emerging Micro Enterprise
2. More than 51% black-owned
3. B-BBEE status of Level 4 or better
4. Core business must be in tech and ICT
5. Business must be existent for more than 24 months

 

What: This intensive multi-year support programme is aimed at in depth support of black-owned small businesses in the ICT sector. The purpose is the enablement and growth of early stage businesses, improving the survival rate of BBBEE SMME companies by helping them become structurally viable, usually within two to three years.

 

Duration: The programme is the first year of a three year programme and requires a commitment of up to 10 five-hour, face-to-face sessions held over the course of a year. The sessions are facilitated by an experienced moderator and there is an emphasis on networking and peer support.

 

Location: The programme will be held at the Bandwidth Barn, Woodstock Exchange and at The Bandwidth Barn Khayelitsha, based at Lookout Hill.

FEMALE?

 

 

Women In Business (Tech)

 

Who: Are you a black woman running your own business?

 

What: This programme will help you understand the equity framework and the legislation in South Africa that supports women in business and the opportunities which should be utilised. We will also be profiling role models and providing networking opportunities. How to prepare for these and make the most of it. The programme will address specific growth areas for development: Growing confidence in a man’s world. Trusting your experience and projecting confidence as well as coping and planning as a mom, business owner, wife, boss, getting your partner on your side and more. There is also a strong focus on how technology can enable your business, designing a tech strategy as well as which technology will help you best grow your business.

 

Duration: 6 months, 1 morning a week.

Women In Business

 

Who: WIB is for female entrepreneurs who are looking for a supportive place to share start-up experiences, compare notes, and exchange tips and advice. It is for women who have been running their business for at least a year.

 

What: Participants are provided with strategic support to help address their key challenges and help them rethink their business plans if necessary. The programme will empower women to participate in a highly competitive environment and develop leadership ability.

 

Duration: The programme requires a commitment of up to 10 five-hour, face-to-face sessions held over the course of a year. The sessions are facilitated by an experienced moderator and there is an emphasis on networking and peer support.

Who: If you are a black entrepreneur and business owner in the Khayelitasha and the greater Mitchells Plain area who would like to design, set up and/or structure your businesses for success, then this is the programme for you.

 

What: The key outcome of the programme is to have developed an action plan for launch, sustainability and growth covering topics from The Entrepreneurial Mindset; Developing your Business Concept; Feasibility Assessment; Business Model; Action Planning (Growth Wheel); Monitoring & Evaluation; Adoption & Usage of ICTs as Business Enabler; Service Excellence; Maintaining Financial Records and taking on and Managing Staff (Servant Leadership)

 

Duration: 6 months

KEEN FOR

Computer Literacy & Digital Skills

 

Who: This programme is for anyone in Khayelitsha and the greater Mitchells Plain area who would like to become fully competent in the use of a computer and common applications.

 

What: Due to a strong demand from the beneficiary communities a Computer Literacy and Digital Skills training programme will be offered aimed mainly at the business and adult user community. The programme components will also form an essential part of all programmes offered at The Barn Khayelitsha to aid in improving operational efficiencies in small businesses. ICDL has been selected as the preferred training programme. ICDL modules provide a practical programme of up-to-date skills and knowledge areas that are validated by a test. This includes Computer Essentials, Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Online Essentials.

 

Duration: 6 -12 months, 1 morning a week.

 

Location: The Barn Khayelitsha, Lookout Hill
