Youth in ICT

This programme provides a wonderful opportunity for IT companies to get involved at grassroots level in highlighting ICT as an enabler and also enthuse youth about ICT related careers to pursue and follow. Its intention is not only to get the learners to pursue ICT careers but also to bridge the skills gap in ICT, specifically amongst Previously Disadvantaged Individuals (PDI) learners. CITI is proud to announce that this initiative achieved its mandate as well as that of Cornastone of reaching PDI learners.

ARE YOU, & OR YOUR BUSINESS…

  • From corporate, or enterprising ICT in and around Cape Town?
  • Interested to enthuse and positively contribute by influencing the numbers of learners going into ICT sector?
  • Willing to speak to youth in their schools about how fun, interesting, innovative, and rewarding being in the ICT sector can be?
  • Willing to spare an hour or two to go to schools in and around the Cape Town Metropole, West Coast, Overberg and South Cape regions?

Should your answer be yes to any of the above, then, it is you that we're inviting to join CITI & Khanya, as the ICT industry in the Western Cape, on the road show to the 40 odd schools we are targeting to achieve this year. This is a 30 % increase on schools visited last year.

The road shows will commence when schools re-open from the 21st July to be concluded by the 30th Aug 2008, however, should a minimum of 50 interested individuals be a part of the road show, this will take a shorter period! To enable all interested parties to understand the brief, and address any questions and concerns before going to the schools, CITI will host a briefing session on the 14th July.

All interested takers can email the Project Manager, Thandeka, with the info below thandeka@citi.org.za using the subject line: 2008 YIICT Volunteer Speaker
  • Company name & total number of interested persons
  • Names of interested individuals & contact details: email, office telephone & cellphone numbers
  • A brief profile (no more than 50 words) on interested individuals

Kindly be assured that the above info will be required solely for the scheduling of the road show roaster for ease of communication for this programme. Should you be keen to sponsor this initiative in any other way, especially for the prize giving awards in October to which all volunteer speakers will be invited, will be highly appreciated.
