Being Proactive Being Proactive

Presented by Judith on Monday, 20 October 2008.

In our session on the 20th of October, our overall topics was ‘being proactive’. Stephen Covey’s view on being proactive was introduced, which put a specific focus on choosing your response to exernal stimuli as opposed to merely ‘reacting’. We discussed examples of being proactive as an entrepreneur, and related our discussion to current economic developments: what would a proactive way of dealing with the current situation look like – what would be a ‘reactive’ way? The importance of taking responsibility, of focussing on ourselves as agents for change, rather than blaming others or waiting for things to happen were listed as particularly important for entrepreneurs. In the last third of the session, participants were able to bring challenges to the table, to discuss them with other entrepreneurs and receive feedback. From finding new premises to having a closer look at a pricing strategy - most entrepreneurs took up this opportunity and brought their questions to the table. The result was a lively discussion that provided several useful strategies and learnings, not only for the person who had brought in the challenge initially!
