Presented by Judith from PeerPower
Today we had our second PEERPOWER session which took place in two smaller groups. We started by revisiting the values, purpose and vision which everyone had defined for themselves, and clarified any remaining questions. We then continued with the topic of the session: NETWORKING. Both groups engaged in lively discussions regarding the value of networking, the skills that are required for successful networking, and useful networking tools. The discussions were not only limited to ‘networking’ as such, but participants exchanged ideas regarding business relationships in general – how to treat them in the best way, how to be with others so you create a relationship based on trust, integrity, and mutual support. One of the main messages from the PEERPOWER side regarding networking was that it is NOT about selling, but about seeing how you can contribute to others – along the lines of ‘if you want to succeed, help others around you succeed as well’. Really listening, genuine interest, suspending judgement, and thinking ‘how can I support you’ instead of ‘what’s in it for me’ were some of the aspects that were discussed in more detail, and mentioned as crucial for effective networking.

As basic as networking seems, this session made us think deeper. I think writing down ones strategy with regards to networking was a great idea and will help us overcome any obstacles.

I enjoyed every bit of the Networking session. If you want to succeed, help others around you succeed as well’. It was crystal clear, very powerful indeed. I have also adapted to a new listening technique. More grace to your elbows Judith.

This Session showed me the importance of networking and the attitude towards it. I learnt something new and that is Super nodes. I learned that super nodes are a great asset in a network. They are the people who know everyone, who chat to everyone and know what everyone is up to. I found out that I have about 5 super nodes in my network and I am going to make use of them more effectively. I have got a little quiz about how valuable you network is. I will send to all of you via email. The session was very informative. Thank you VELOCITI!!!

The networking session gave me excellent insight on what netwroking really is, generally accepted forms of networking and building relationships. The interactive nature of the session also helps in that I could hear the views of different companies.
