Comment from facilitator, Judith Haupt

The 18th of March was the first gathering of participants after having been accepted on the programme, and it was a whole-day session that got the room vibrating with energy by the end of it!

The day was filled with lively and interesting discussions and exercises regarding people’s primary aim, values, purpose and business vision. People from participant companies realised and discussed the importance of having personal goals and business aligned in order to create sustainability in their business. It was wonderful to see how excited the group got when speaking about what they value, about ‘what they are all about’, and how that is reflected in what they are doing with their business!

The task everyone left with was to define their values and purpose, and to define what they would like their business to look like in the next 3-5 years (to write their business vision). It’s been great to hear the result of this from some participants, and I look forward to seeing them again on the 29th of April when we will be looking at ‘networking’.

A Session which made us think about who we really are

the first Peer Power Session for VeloCITI was quite intense and inspiring. We were tasked with investigating our own value systems and assessing what was most impostant to us in our lives. In this way we could evaluate our business decisions in order to ascertain whether what we were doing in our businesses synchronised well with our personal values and beliefs.

I know the importance of aligning ones business with ones personal values in order to prevent any personal / business conflicts from arising. It also helps to maintain motivation and inspiration in what one is doing as working in a business which one does not believe in ultimately results in loss of motivation and lack of productivity.

The execises Judith tooks all of us through uncovered some really meaningful reasons for why each of us were doing what we were doing in business and what keeps us motivated and focused. Though it may seem very theoretical this type of introspective exercise can have a huge impact on future results.

I wrote a detailed breakdown of our day with PeerPower which you can read at - http://www.nomad-one.com/2008/03/18/velociti-session-1-getting-our-values-in-order/

VeloCITI Setup and Value Session

I really tried hard to read about the difference between Mission and Vision but I was never able to tell the actual difference between the two. But I now clearly understand the meaning after the first PEERPOWER session which was practical by utilizing real life examples.

Please could you all send your feedback. I thought it would be great if the facilitators could start with summary introduction of previous sessions which I believe will help us to inter-relate the different sessions.

Set Up and Vision

lol; this session really helped me to set clear values, vision and goals for my personal and business life. Firstly to understand my values and vision also to determine what are really core in this regard. I loved this session as you can use what we have learned here and apply in our family lives as well. It really helped me to focus on the right things.

Deep Values

Now this session was by far the most self reflecting. To really dig deep down and find out what one's core...very core values are was indeed a challenge. I think the most daunting task was the realisation that your core values must at all times be reflected in your business.

Values

Clarifying how to communicate core values to employees is one useful application that springs to mind.
