Joining the CITI board I believe that I can make a valuable contribution towards CITI’s objective to grow the ICT industry in the Western Cape. As the majority of the local ICT companies are SME’s I believe that I understand their requirements and needs and can represent them. As I have already served two years on the board of CITI and have been involved in numerous of CITI’s initiatives I believe to have demonstrated my commitment to CITI’s vision and would be honoured if I would be elected to do so again.

David Gale
My decision to accept a nomination to stand for the CITI board is motivated largely by the belief that industry representation should include someone from the telecommunications sector and that it is time I re-engaged with CITI. Given my daily exposure to the changing policy landscape I believe I will bring an added insight into challenges that face our industry at the most fundamental level.

I am truly honored with the nomination to contribute to the success of the Cape IT Initiative at Board Level. Establishing an ICT enterprise in South Africa in one of the most contested and competitive industry sectors is by far one of the most difficult endeavours. An enterprise will be challenged to break ground into established markets and relationships. After sales service, pricing wars and general product offering are some of the daily activities that the IT smme will be confronted with. Add the difficulty to win government tenders, bad debt, lack of funding and labour issues, the success rate of an ICT business becomes a real challenge. Throw in the challenged of emerging black-owned versus white-owned startups, one is challenged with a completely different dynamic.

I am thankful for this opportunity and seek to highlight a few areas where I believe I could serve in growing the Cape Information Technology Initiative (Hereinafter referred to as CITI). Firstly I am very passionate about issues of digital inclusion and digital access, whether it is providing access to ICT infrastructure to poor communities or access to global intellectual property for business and academia, through the open sharing of ideas and open dialogue.
The CITI has proven to be a capable vehicle through which to reach these ideals and it is incumbent on those of us with opportunity to ensure that these ideals are realized. What makes me believe that I am well matched to serve through the CITI are the higher ideals of this organisation. I have a good exposure to the CITI’s work and how it lives up to its mandate, having worked with the CITI as the regional manager for Microsoft in the coastal region in programs such as SPIN, the FOSS Forum and the VIP Graduate Club (Formerly Next Billionaire)..

Yanesh Ramiah
When I learnt about CITI and its objectives, I was pleased in that it was filling an obvious lacuna that existed within the sector. I shared CITI’s commitment to its objectives and to that end made myself available to, in some small way contribute to the fulfillment its vision for the IT sector in Western Cape. In particular, I recognized that the growth of the organization was central it is ultimate success. With that in mind I played an active role in ensuring that Swisttech’s management team obtained membership in CITI. In addition, I participated in some of CITI’s specific programmes, for example, the Women in ICT initiative.
