SAFIPA (the South Africa – Finland Knowledge Partnership on ICT) has announced that its first call for proposals will go out in the first week of October 2008. SAFIPA is a partnership programme between the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for Finland (MFA) and South Africa’s Department of Science and Technology (DST), and operates within the Meraka Institute of the CSIR.
ICT Charter & BBBEE Workshop 28 Aug
The objectives are: Information sharing regarding the aspects of BBBEE; Popularize the ICT Charter Framework to Stakeholders in the Western Cape; Encourage the established ICT Stakeholder (white businesses) to implement BBBEE in their companies; Inform ICT Stakeholders in the Western Cape regarding the status of the Codes of Good Practice on BBBEE and hot it will impact on their business; Align the ICT Sector to meet the Charter objectives of the MEDS Implementation Plan

This is CITI's 2nd IT Services & OSS Seminar. The focus of the event will be IT Services Management Framework. Presentations by Hashiem Bardien (IT Naledi) and Andre van Schalkwyk (QoS ITSM Consulting Services)
New Media & OSS Seminar 6 June
The focus of the event was on New Media technologies, including computer graphics, computer animation, the Internet, interactive technologies, mobile technologies and robotics etc. Presentations were made by Danny Day and Emma Kaye-active believers from industry.

The Cape IT Initiative hosts its Telecoms & OSS Seminar for 2008. The programme consisted of speakers from the Shuttleworth Foundation, Breadbin Interactive and Innovation Norway.
VC & Funding Seminar 25 April 2008
SPII is designed to promote and assist technology development in South African industry through the provision of financial assistance for projects that develop innovative products and/or processes. SPII is focused specifically on the phase that begins at the conclusion of basic research (at the stage of proof of concept) and ends at the point where a pre-production prototype has been produced. The Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Limited (IDC), on behalf of the Department of Trade and Industry (the DTI), manages the programme and hosts this VC & Funding Seminar.

Innovation Roadmap Workshops 14 Feb & 12 Mar 2008
The Cape IT Initiative and the Provincial Department of Economic Development & Tourism partnered up to host an Innovation Gap Analysis workshop. The aim of the workshop was to understand the impact the ICT sector can have on narrowing the innovation gap in the following sectors; Film, Music, and craft industries. The second workshop, Innovation Roadmap, aimed to draw on the first phase of the project (i.e. the innovation gap analysis workshop, the survey & 1st draft report) and assessed the ICT innovation challenges and needs of the ICT and participating industries within the current global competitive nature of the industry.
