Western Cape Government: Economic Development and Tourism

- Tender Support and Financial Assistance Guide (PDF Download)

Small and medium enterprises play a significant role in the economy, particularly in relation to employment, contribution to GDP and innovation.  Access to finance and procurement opportunities has been singled out as one of the major challenges impeding the survival and growth of Small and Medium enterprises (SME's) in South Africa.

Using a multi-disciplinary approach involving the public and private sector, the Department of Economic Development and Tourism is continuing its process wide drive to support small to medium size businesses.  This forms part of a program of establishing, supporting startups and small and medium enterprises in the Western Cape.

This booklet serves as a tender support and financial assistance guide for ICT SME's.  Getting these processes right not only saves time and effort but has the prospect of stimulating the domestic industry and job creation.

TheCITi is an NPO supporting the ICT sector in Western Cape
TheCITi was 1998 to address systemic challenges undermining the growth and sustainability of the technology sector (ie IT, ICT, ICTe, Tech&Design and software) in the Western Cape, South Africa.
In 2010 we expanded our focus to also include our major regional technology-enabled sectors, including financial services, retail and government as the systemic impact of offshoring of skills by these sectors was undermining the growth of our local software and IT sector.
TheCITi is the initiated programmes to support:
  • startups (aka enterprise development),
  • skills capacity building (aka Skills & Human Resource Development),
  • cluster development,
  • research and market growth programmes

A host of smaller initiatives have been developed, like:
  • codersRcreative,
  • the Software CEOs Forum,
  • the Academic HODs Forum,
  • IT Heroes,
  • Café Conversations,
  • and much more.

We keep our stakeholders updated via Twitter and Facebook because we believe pictures tell the story best (and because that’s the best way to show how passionate we are about what we do).
