Hasso Plattner Ventures Africa was launched in February 2008 by Prof Hasso Plattner, cofounder of software giant SAP. It will build, hold and manage a portfolio of investments in companies that have a unique and proven innovative offering either based on the business model, product offering or underlying technology. Technology investments will not be limited to, but in general should have an emphasis on telecommunications, mobile applications, media and software or clean technology energy-saving concepts. Companies with international expansion strategies will be the core target market for the fund. Over and above the capital injection and the active management support, Hasso Plattner Ventures Africa’s other value-add is the national and international network access provided by its investors, investment committee members and its management team.
