Started in 2002 Inter Computers’ vision is to become the dominant family-outlet IT retail and service operation in South Africa. The goal is to have 40-50 outlets by the end of 2010.

History
The personal computer business has, since the early nineties when home ownership levels were almost zero, been gaining in momentum each year. Inter Computers launched with the objective of becoming South Africa’s biggest franchised retail store computer group. Inter Computers has built a niche in the price sensitive middle market.

Business model
Inter Computers offers its customer’s quality IT solutions, popular brands and various related accessory products at close to wholesale prices. The target market is middle market end user South Africans. This sector of the market is growing as home pc ownership increases and as the target market becomes more computer literate and demand for home internet usage increases. The small home office business market has also grown significantly in recent years and offers significant business opportunity.

The local computer industry is fragmented into;
•    the big service providers e.g. Dimension Data, who specialise in servicing large corporates with a full service MIS solution
•    individual proprietors, the Yellow Pages IT consultants, who provide mobile support services to their own client base
•    computer stores who offer consulting services and retail solutions. Inter Computers fits in this category in the broad mid-market sector

Inter Computer outlets are positioned and located as destination shopping venues, situated in areas with high traffic volumes and adjacent to shopping centres with medium/low rentals.
